- Jenny O’Connor (f)
(R.G.N), Practice Nurse Team Leader
Jenny O’Connor trained at The Middlesex and University College Hospital in London and qualified in 1992. She specialized in Accident and Emergency nursing at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London after qualifying, and also worked in medical repatriation. In addition she has travelled widely and worked as a nurse in Australia. Jenny joined the Practice nine years ago, and more recently became the Team Leader of the Practice Nursing and HCA team covering both the Goring and Woodcote surgeries. Jenny is experienced in Nurse Triage (working alongside the doctors at the Practice) and the management of minor injuries. She has a diploma in asthma management and is a qualified Nurse Prescriber. Jenny also specializes in travel health.
- Sian Hayes (f)
Nurse Practitioner (BSc Health Studies HONS, BSC Health Studies Nurse Practitioner HONS, MA Education – Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting)
Sian Hayes joined the Practice in May 2012 as Nurse Practitioner. She is a qualified Nurse Prescriber and experienced in triage, gaining skills at a previous surgery as well as at the Reading Treatment Centre. Sian also lectures in Practice Nursing clinical skills. She works at both our Goring and Woodcote surgeries, and is one of two of our Diabetic Specialist nurses.
We currently have a team of 5 highly trained and experienced Practice Nurses. Jenny O’Connor is our Practice Nurse Team Leader. She is also a Nurse Prescriber and offers a Minor Illness/Injury service to patients. Sian Hayes is our Nurse Practitioner and is also a Nurse Prescriber. Both Jenny and Sian see appropriate patients from our daily triage list.
Our Nurses care for patients who are mobile enough to get to the Practice and can offer patients care of their chronic condition, eg diabetes, COPD, asthma and also B12 injections, stitch removal, wound dressing, travel advice and medication, smear tests, etc.
- Sally Barter (f)
Practice Nurse (R.G.N, BSc HONS)
Sally Barter is a part-time Practice Nurse who works at both the Goring and Woodcote surgeries. Sally joined the Practice in September 2010 and has since undertaken training in leg ulcer management. She hopes to develop her special interest in family planning. Sally is also Infection Control Lead and our Contraceptive Lead Nurse.
- Emma West
Practice Nurse (RGN, Bachelor of Science, Brunel University)
Emma West joined the team as a Practice Nurse in October 2013. She has previously worked as a Community Staff Nurse in the South Oxfordshire locality. Emma is one of our two Diabetic nurses. Emma has a special interest in wound care and palliative care.
- Stella Mitchell (f)
Practice Nurse (R.G.N), Bsc (hons) business admin.
Stella trained at the Royal Free school of nursing qualifying in 1983 and has worked in a variety of nursing roles before settling as a community staff nursing in the South Oxfordshire area. Stella has a special interest in dementia and care of patients suffering from cancer.
We have two Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) (Senior) Nicky Thomson and Alison Poffley and a Practice Phlebotomist Billie Richards. Nicky and Bille both also do diabetic foot checks.
Regular clinics are held, by appointment.
Our HCAs carry out blood tests, B12 injections, NHS Health Checks, blood pressure checks, BP monitoring, ECGs, cardiac monitoring, diabetic blood testing, etc.
Our Phlebotomist carries out all routine blood testing.
